EDUCATION IN CANADA

Education in Canada is available in both the private and public sectors.

PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Private secondary schools establishes their own entrance standards and exams 

and require a yearly tuition to be paid each year a student attends. All secondary schools
in Canada follow a curriculum guidelines and outcome standards established by the
provincial government's Ministries of Education.

TERM OPTIONS
Full Year ( 3 terms)  Begins early September, ends mid June


Students study a maximum of eight courses each year from a list applicable for
each grade level. Certain courses are mandatory, while others are chosen by the
student on an elective basis. This allows some flexibility for the student's choice of study. 


Students must attend the full year in order to complete their studies and
graduate to the next grade level or to apply for a university or college.

PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS

There are many high quality Canadian public secondary schools that offer comprehensive
courses of academic study, technology, the arts, drama and music.
A number of public secondary schools offer the International Baccalaureate.

Semester Schedule ( 2 semesters) 

TERMS

1st semester / early September to end of January 
2nd semester / early February to mid or end of June 


Students study 4 courses per semester for a total of 8 during the semester-ed school year. Certain courses are mandatory, while others are chosen by the student on an elective basis. This allows some flexibility for the student's choice of study.

Students take summer holidays in July and August.

    Student Age 17:  Grade 12 Secondary School
